If you need to switch up your morning green smoothie recipe, this clean green smoothie bowl with kiwis and blueberries is a wonderful option.
I’ve been enjoying the unseasonably warm weather in Cali as of late. 80 degrees in February? I’ll take it! And those Dana Point beach strolls and Laguna Beach hikes….yep, I’ll take those too. Did you see them on Snapchat? (username: Downshiftology). Oh yes, I’m quite the pro on Snapchat now (*joking*). But after two weeks on this new social platform, it’s almost like I know what I’m doing (I think?!) – and I’m definitely having fun showing you guys the behind-the-scenes of my life.
One of the things I realized this week is that my trip to Portugal is only two months away – yikes – so prioritizing a little exercise via hiking and the gym has jumped to the front of the priority list. Along with eating a little cleaner than I normally do. In short, I need to get my body ready to explore, adventure and hike the Portuguese countryside (read: more likely the vineyards in Porto!)
This is my first trip to Portugal, so if you have recommendations on things to do, see, eat…let me know! I’ll be working on my itinerary in the next couple of weeks and figuring out exactly where I’ll be staying (Porto, Lisbon….?) and how slow my slow, roaming free travels will be. I’m thinking a month? What do you think?
Alright, you know I love smoothie bowls – I have 3 recipes already on the blog, for this one, this one and this one. I also have my classic green smoothie recipe and my post-workout green smoothie recipe – but sometimes I like to feel like I’m eating breakfast rather than drinking it – so this green smoothie bowl recipe is a great combination of both.
My goal with this recipe was to keep things simple and use ingredients that you most likely already have on hand. I love superfoods like spirulina, bee pollen and hemp hearts…but this green smoothie bowl is your simple, everyday, clean green smoothie bowl. The base is just spinach, coconut water, bananas and avocado….and then an assortment of toppings. I opted for kiwi fruit, blueberries, coconut and sunflower seeds, but any fruit, seeds and nuts you have in your fridge can be used.
I love green smoothies, but let’s be honest, smoothie bowls are just so darn pretty.
Enjoy!

I am just starting to try to eat healthier so admittedly my tastebuds are not attuned to greens for breakfast. I usually have granola but was craving something less sweet and more varied. I made this smoothie bowl and thought it was pretty good at first. A little “nutritious” tasting :) but good. However, by the end of it, it had a bitter taste. I’m not sure what caused that as I like all the ingredients individually and don’t find them bitter. I will make this again despite that. I felt very satisfied and loved knowing had done something very good for myself. Thanks for the recipe. I hope to stretch into more of your recipes in the future.
My husband and I had this for breakfast. I was starving when I woke up but didn’t have time to cook eggs. I love this idea and recipe so much. I am doing whole 30 round 4 and it is so great to have more ideas with all of my workouts to replenish and fortify my nutrition.
Happy to hear you and your husband enjoyed this smoothie bowl :)
Great tasting green smoothie bowl! Super easy to whip up in my Vitamix.
Hi Becky – So glad you love this recipe :)
Made this last night, photographed it and sent it to some friends who said it looked pretty, and it does! As I was eating it, it made me think how nutrient starved and fatigued I was all year, and how this is a superior improvement over the bowls of instant oatmeal I’ve eaten. So happy to be eating better. This is delicious! Than You Lisa!
Hi Christine – I’m so glad to hear you’re on your way to eating better :) I can’t wait to show you tons of new healthy recipes coming in the new year to get you re-charged!
I could have this smoothie every day, I love those colors! You will love Portugal – a visit to Sintra (and its castles) and Cascais will make a great day trip, it was one of the highlights of my trip two years ago! :)
Colorful food makes for tasty food! And thanks so much for the Portugal guidance!! I’ll definitely look up Sintra and Cascais. Personally recommendations are always the best – so I greatly appreciate it Ana! :) x
I’m so jealous of your beautiful Cali weather… here in CT it’s about 25 degrees :(
Oh no, that’s cold! Sending you warm vibes from Cali! :) x
Enjoy the warm temperatures for me! Your upcoming trip sounds exciting, so I look forward to the recap once you go/return :) And smoothie bowls = can’t go wrong. Love the mix of flavors and ingredients in your green smoothie creation!
I’ll probably have several posts, given how long I plan to stay in Portugal. And given how much I plan to eat! ;) x
