Finding fresh, organic food is extremely easy in Sydney – farmer’s markets are everywhere! If you happen to be staying in a place with a kitchen, all the better to enjoy the fruits of someone else’s labor. But even without a kitchen, the markets are worth your while. You’ll find daily munchies, smoothies, prepared food and the most gorgeous flowers to brighten your day.
Just remember, go early for the best selection (and parking!) and don’t forget to bring cash. Also, take the time to have a chat with the farmers. Whether you’re a Sydney local or friendly visitor, you might learn something new about whatever it is you’re eating.
After visiting more than a dozen different farmer’s markets, here’s my pick for five of the best farmer’s markets in Sydney.
Eveleigh Markets
This is without a doubt my favorite market in Sydney. Part of the old Carriageworks facility, it’s a bustling mecca of seasonal goodness. With over 70 regular stalls, it’s one of the biggest weekly markets in Sydney, with everything you could ever want – and then some.
What you’ll find: Organic fruits and vegetables, pasture-raised meat, smoked fish, juices and smoothies, artisan olive oils, gourmet treats, organic yogurt and cheese, jams and chutneys, sweet and savory food stalls, flowers and artisan crafts.
When to go: Every Saturday from 8am-1pm
Marrickville Organic Food Market
With an earthy festival vibe and nestled between the trees, the Marrickville market exudes relaxed ambiance. But don’t be fooled by the music and boho chic attire, this market has some great seasonal offerings.
What you’ll find: Organic fruits and vegetables, coffee, juices and smoothies, artisan olive oils, gourmet treats, organic yogurt and cheese, sweet and savory food stalls, clothing, books, second-hand items, artisan crafts.
When to go: Every Sunday from 8:30am-3pm
EQ Village Markets
All farmer’s markets are family friendly, but this one kicks it up a notch with a bounce house and play zone. After you’ve purchased some fresh nibbles, relax in the grass, soak up a little sun and let the kiddos play. Added bonus: free 2-hr parking in the structure.
What you’ll find: Organic fruits and vegetables, coffee, juices and smoothies, artisan olive oils, gourmet treats, pasture-raised meat, chorizo, jams and chutneys, gourmet treats, sweet and savory food stalls and flowers.
When to go: Every Wednesday and Saturday from 10am-3:30pm

Leichhardt Organic Food Market
Located at Orange Grove Public School, the Leichhardt market has a bit of everything. From the usual food offerings, to music and potted plants, herbs and flower. The neighborhood locals know to get to this market early for the best selection.
What you’ll find: Organic fruits and vegetables, juices and smoothies, gourmet treats, pasture-raised meat, jams and chutneys, sweet and savory food stalls, live music, clothing, plants and flowers.
When to go: Every Saturday from 8am-1pm
French’s Forest Organic Food Market
This thriving market is the place to be on a Sunday morning. It’s also the largest market on the northern beaches. Not only does it have the usual offerings, it has a large number of freshly prepared food stalls – so breakfast and lunch is a lively, community affair.
What you’ll find: Organic fruits and vegetables, juices and smoothies, gourmet treats, pasture-raised meat, jams and chutneys, sweet and savory food stalls, clothing and fashion, organic dairy, farm-fresh eggs and flowers.
When to go: Every Sunday from 8am-1pm
What’s your favorite farmer’s market in Sydney and why?
I love the French’s Forest markets. You’ll find me there every Sunday. I’ve been wanting to visit Everleigh for awhile now, and I think I’ll have to add EQ to that list too.
French’s Forest is awesome for a Sunday brekkie! And you’ll LOVE Eveleigh! Just make sure to take a big bag. ;)
