Enjoy This Mango Margarita All Summer Long

A classic margarita is a perennial favorite on warm summer days, especially when lounging by the pool. But fruity versions are an extra special treat, and the two I alternate between the most are a blended strawberry margarita and this mango margarita on the rocks. Fresh mangoes are one of my favorite fruits, so If you have the same love for mangoes as I do, here’s why you’ll love this version:

  • It’s not sugar spiked. Unlike restaurant margaritas that are loaded with added sugar, this version uses all-natural ingredients. Perfectly ripe mangoes are sweet enough all on their own, thanks to Mother Nature.
  • It’s easy to make. You simply have to toss five ingredients into a blender and blend it up. Then pour it over ice. That’s it!
  • It’s a great party cocktail. This recipe is always a hit when I make it for summer parties or Cinco de Mayo. Just double or triple the recipe. My friends and family love this recipe and always request it.

Mango Margarita Ingredients

  • Mangoes: Fresh, in-season mangoes serve up the best flavor and natural sweetness. But you could also use a bag of frozen mango. For fresh mangoes, just peel, score, and scoop. If you’ve never done this, you can watch how I do it in my White Sangria with Mango and Berries recipe
  • Fresh Citrus Juice: A combination of freshly squeezed orange juice and lime juice is perfectly balanced between sweet and acidic.
  • Tequila: Mixed margaritas often use a Blanco or silver tequila. But I prefer using Reposado tequila, which is what I’m using today. Feel free to use the tequila that you enjoy most!
  • Orange Liqueur: I love Cointreau for its mix of sweet and bitter oranges. Other common brands to use are Curaçao and Grand Marnier.
  • Finishing Touches: All that’s left is margarita salt and ice cubes! I’ve linked my favorite margarita salt in the recipe card below.

How to Make a Mango Margarita

Blend the margarita. Add the diced mango, orange juice, lime juice, tequila, and orange liqueur to a high-powered blender. Blend until it’s completely smooth and pureed.

Pour over ice and serve. If you have a cocktail shaker, you can shake this with ice before pouring it into a salt-rimmed glass. Otherwise, just pour the mango margarita puree into a glass filled with ice.

Lisa’s Tips

  • I’m loving this bamboo cocktail rimmer and salt keeper. It matches my sea salt keeper that you guys always see in my YouTube videos.
  • This recipe is meant to be “on the rocks,” meaning, it should be slowly sipped with the ice melting, which dilutes the alcohol a smidge. In other words, this mango margarita is quite boozy, so feel free to adjust the alcohol.

  1. Hi Lisa, do you have a non-alcohol version of this or maybe it’s something you can consider in future? As a non drinker, I do enjoy these refreshing drinks sans the alcohol! I’m excited that more and more restaurants are striving for inclusivity and adding mock-tails to their menus – yay!!  I found a nonalcoholic classic margarita recipe online that I made last week which was delicious.  I always check your site first. Thanks in advance!

  2. I enjoyed this; however, I used frozen mango chunks from Costco. Would you have weight recommendations for using frozen vs fresh?
    Thanks!

  3. I did make this recipe and couldn’t taste the mangos as the lime juice and the orange juice killed the mango flavour. Won’t make this one again even added more mangoes but it didn’t help now I have to try and drink something that tastes eh.

    1. Hi Colin – it sounds like your oranges and limes might have been on the larger side. I’ll adjust the recipe card to have the exact amount, rather than the quantity. Thanks for giving it a try!

  4. Can you provide an approximate amount for the mangoes? I have Ataulfo mangoes waiting to be used, but they are considerably smaller than the regular mangoes.

    1. Hi Susan – I’d probably use 3-4 of the Ataulfo mangoes. You can always try the recipe with that quantity and then tweak as needed based on the flavor. :)

  5. This is my kind of margarita! The freshness of the mango makes this a perfect drink anytime I’m looking to relax.5 stars

  6. Had me at margarita but the mangos are a plus for sure!! Perfect for Cinco de mayo!! Another refreshing cocktail added to my celebrations!5 stars

  7. Oh wow! I can see this being enjoyed on a Saturday afternoon sitting on the deck, listening to some good music. It looks fabulous too, thanks for sharing. I will look forward to trying it. Cheers!5 stars

  8. Lisa, you’re right – husband loves this margarita!  The alcohol cuts the sweetness and it’s lovely, perfect.  For anyone like me without a vitamix, put the juices of the citrus and mango in the blender and blend away.  Then slowly add the Cointreau before slowly adding the tequila.  I made a heck of a mess over the weekend making normal margarita, and this method is ‘foolproof’.5 stars

    1. Woot! So glad you both loved it. This is definitely my favorite margarita flavor…though I love anything with mangoes. ;) Great tips as well! x

  9. These were fantastic! We ended up adjusting the ratio of tequila to orange liqueur (we used cointreau) a bit, as we had some seriously high-octane tequila in the house a friend brought from Mexico. Delicious, and I agree it was so nice to sip slowly. What a fabulous way to christen our new deck!

  10. Mangoes are one of my favorite fruits! Put mangoes in a margarita and I am a happy girl!

  11. I could totally go for this fresh, real version of a margarita. Perfect for warmer days!

  12. I’m feeling very lucky right now because I have everything in the house to make these…cheers!

    1. Oh yes, I’m definitely gonna be making it again later this week. Happy Cinco de Mayo Lindsay! x

  13. Margaritas are one of my favorite summer drinks! I love that you’ve used fresh mangoes and no sugar in this one!

    1. Mangoes are so sweet on their own, your really don’t need any added sugar. :)
