A strawberry margarita is everyone’s favorite summer cocktail. It’s fruity, festive, and with just 5 ingredients and a blender you’ll have a frosty cocktail in minutes.
Nothing says fiesta like a frozen strawberry margarita. They’re colorful, playful, photogenic, and perfect for all your tequila lovers. Not to mention, strawberry peak season is upon us. Which means strawberry smoothies, strawberry frozen yogurt, and this refreshing cocktail for happy hour.
Get ready to whip up this margarita for Cinco De Mayo or any of your summer festivities. This sweet, fruity cocktail will sure get the party going.
Strawberry Margarita Ingredients
Strawberries
For a thick and refreshing strawberry margarita (just like your favorite Mexican restaurant) use frozen strawberries. They’re economical, easy to find and you won’t dilute your margarita with blended ice.
But if you have fresh strawberries those work too. Just wash your berries and remove the stems before tossing them into the blender. Then, serve the margarita on the rocks over ice.
Tequila and Orange Liqueur
You’ll want to begin by choosing a good Blanco (or silver) tequila for their true agave flavor. I’m using Reposado tequila, but feel free to use whichever you like.
As for orange liqueurs, I love Cointreau for its mix of sweet and bitter oranges. Other common brands to use are Curaçao and Grand Marnier. For a more detailed breakdown between all these liquors, take a peek at my classic margarita recipe.
Lime Juice
Freshly squeezed lime juice is a key ingredient for margaritas. Don’t use bottles of lime juice, the flavor is muted and flat. Fresh limes make all the difference.
Sweetener
Strawberries are naturally sweet so I don’t think sugar is required in this recipe. But if you like a margarita on the sweeter side, feel free to add your favorite sweetener. I’d start with 3-4 tablespoons of honey, sugar or other sweetener, then taste.
Salt or No Salt
This is personal preference and completely up to you. I love a salt rimmed glass, but there’s no right or wrong answer to this one. You do you.
How To Make A Strawberry Margarita
- Prep your glasses. Run a lime wedge around the upper outer rim of your glasses. Then roll it into the margarita salt mixture and set aside.
- Blend away. Add the frozen strawberries, tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice to a blender. Blend until it’s completely smooth. Here, you can taste test and add extra tequila or sweetener if desired.
- Pour it up. Pour the blended margarita into the glasses and garnish with a strawberry. That’s it!

Easy Strawberry Margarita Recipe
Description
Video
Ingredients
- 1 pound frozen whole strawberries
- ¾ cup tequila
- ½ cup lime juice
- ¼ cup orange liqueur, Cointreau or similar
- ⅓ cup honey or other sweetener, more or less to taste
- margarita salt, to rim the glasses
- limes, for garnish
Instructions
- Prep your glasses. First, run a small wedge of lime around the upper outer rim of your glasses. Then roll it into the margarita salt mixture. Set aside.
- Add the strawberries, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and honey to a blender. Blend until it's completely smooth. Taste test and add extra sweetener or alcohol if desired.
- Pour the blended margarita into the glass and garnish with a strawberry or slice of lime.
Lisa’s Tips
- Make sure to use fresh limes for the lime juice and not bottled lime juice. The flavor difference is huge.
- This recipe is frosty, but pourable. It’s not the brain-freeze kind of thick frozen margarita you might get in a restaurant. But if you’d like it extra thick and slushy, you can add two cups of ice.

This is so easy and so good! Perfect every time.
Happy to hear you’re loving the strawberry margarita!
This was delicious! 4 solid servings and I feel like most blended or “girly” drink recipes don’t have enough booze in them, but this one did. Yum. I prepped multiple batches ahead of time (minus the strawberries) so that I could just pour the liquid, add strawberries and blend. The only thing that threw me off a little was the “pound” of strawberries but luckily I found a food scale.
Will definitely make again. Thanks!

This recipe turned out great. Love making margaritas from scratch. Thanks!
Excellent, but that was after adding to the recipe another 1/4 cup tequila! Thanks!
First time making margaritas from scratch. This did not disappoint! I did not use frozen strawberries and I did add crushed ice to the glasses. Excellent excellent excellent! Shouldn’t do this before dinner though LOL
Glad you enjoyed this margarita recipe!
Great cocktail recipe!
Glad you enjoyed this strawberry margarita Jodi! :)
I made this recipe and it was delicious. Made to much…I know…but I added one cup tequila and the drink was a tad strong. Could feel a buzz so I poured the rest into ice cube trays and froze. Then placed in zip lock bag. Now have enough for another day. Will be glad when once again friends can gather. Thank you for another delicious drink. Connie in Marbella Spain
Happy to hear you enjoyed this delicious cocktail!
This recipe really amped up our margarita game! I never thought to let the frozen fruit do the work when it came to having a frozen margarita as opposed to ice. I got used to requesting a margarita on the rocks because the blended ones always gave me a brain freeze – NOT THESE! We replaced the frozen strawberry with frozen mango one night and added some San Francisco Salt Company Chili Lime Salt to the rim of our glasses and it was INCREDIBLE! We plan on doing a mix of these two next time. Thank you for the fun addition to our night! :)
Oops, I forgot I already reviewed this recipe. Sorry about that! (But it really was that good, haha.) Please feel free to delete. Thank you! :)
This recipe is a GAME CHANGER!!! I never ordered blended margarita’s because I’d always get a brain freeze but having these homemade margaritas without ANY need for ice (the frozen fruit does the trick) has been amazing! My husband and I have already enjoyed this recipe twice this month and we even swapped out the strawberry amount with frozen mango and it was a hit! We’re going to try half strawberry and half mango next time. This recipe is delicious, fun, AND inspirational, haha! <3
Amazing Maribel! So glad you enjoyed this margarita recipe :)
New favorite homemade marg. I’ve tried a few (to say the least) over the stay at home, and hadn’t found one I loved yet. Until I tried lisa’s! This one is by far the best frozen drink I’ve ever made AND I love that there is no ice added. I hate that watery icey taste you get in a lot of homemade stuff. All I can say is I know what I’ll be making over Memorial Day!
Hi Katie- Amazing! Glad you finally found the perfect frosty cocktail drink :) This will definitely be great for Memorial Day and 4th of July!
