Dijon vinaigrette is a zesty and flavorful vinaigrette made from Dijon mustard, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, minced garlic and olive oil. It’s a classic vinaigrette recipe that’s delicious on a number of different salads.

Dijon Vinaigrette Ingredients
I’m a big fan of vinaigrette recipes as they’re simple and most of the ingredients you already have on hand. This Dijon vinaigrette is no exception. Made from just 5 ingredients – olive oil, lemon juice, white wine vinegar, Dijon mustard and minced garlic (plus salt and pepper) – it’s fast, easy and can be drizzled on a wide variety of salads.
Does the Type of Mustard Make a Difference?
I sure think so! Regular mustard, like French’s Mustard, is brighter yellow in color (thanks to turmeric) and has a mild, almost slightly sour or vinegar taste.
Dijon mustard is more muted in color but has a stronger, more spicy flavor and typically uses higher quality ingredients. It’s traditionally made from grinding mustard seeds, rather than using dried mustard (as regular mustard does), giving it slightly more texture as well.
I use this Organicville brand of Dijon Mustard as it’s gluten-free (not all brands are) and uses organic ingredients. If you’re doing a Whole30, it’s also Whole30 compliant.
How to Make Dijon Vinaigrette
It’s as simple as adding all the ingredients to a small bowl and whisking together. The more vigorously you whisk, the more emulsified the vinaigrette will become.

Description
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl and whisk together until slightly emulsified.

- See my note above about my preferred brand of Dijon mustard.
- The Dijon vinaigrette will keep for up to a week in a sealed container in the fridge.

Use red wine vinegar and still deliciousĀ
I doubled the recipe and did Dijon mustard for one and honey mustard for the other and it was bomb! I also used avocado oil which gave great flavor š„°
I just made this tonight and it was delicious! I used rice wine vinegar because it was what I had on hand. Otherwise I followed the recipe to the T. Looking forward to picking up some white wine vinegar for my next batch. This is a quick favorite for me. Thank you!!

Great recipe-thanks. I use the Dijon from Trader Joe’s: “Moutarde de Dijon-” less than $2. I also use “California Champagne Vinegar”- $8. Use a high quality vinegar.

Why does the vinaigrette congeal and the bottle needs to be run under warm water? Is it the kind of oil?
Hi Daniel – that’s because homemade vinaigrettes don’t contain emulsifiers like store-bought versions. But as soon as it’s warmed up a bit, it thins right back out again!
So yummy and easy. Will be doubling next time I make a batch as I can tell Iām going to run out too quickly.

I thoroughly enjoyed this easy to make vinaigrette! Iāve put it on both salads and roasted veggies. It does not disappoint and adds a really fresh pop without depending on store bought dressings with questionable ingredients. I find that the flavor only gets better as it rests in the fridge but honestly, this recipe only lasts 2-3 days in my house before itās gone. Itās definitely a staple.Ā

I have been using a store bought Whole30 compliant dressing, but I was all out. Thought about heading to the store, but then something told me to check back with my Downshift family to see what is available. So glad I found this recipe.
I just had the BEST Downshiftology lunch salad.
I shredded up some leftover crispy chicken thighs, threw in 1c of Israeli salad, and drizzled this delicious dressing over it. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FREAKIN GOOD!

Just made this vinaigrette for a butter lettuce salad and it was amazing! I used whole grain Dijon as that is my preference and also zested some of my lemon. I really enjoyed this and will definitely be in my roster for future salads!!!
